WeirdFest is a day-long immersive adventure where you’ll chase mysteries, meet strange characters, and explore shifting realities—all while celebrating the art of the Weird.

Every twist and turn of the day supports the upcoming Weird Tales from Waves End Retreat anthology—featuring speculative fiction by local authors and showcasing the work of talented local artists. Join us for an interactive day of storytelling, thrifted fashion, and artsy fartsy fun where you can:

Winter Hauntings

Each January, Winter Hauntings transforms the darkest season into a celebration of talented local storytellers inspired by the often uncanny landscapes of Carteret County and performed by gifted actors with Carteret Community Theatre.

Tripling in audience size in one year thanks to an invitation to hold the event at Carteret Community Theatre’s temporary venue at Atlantic Station in Atlantic Beach, Winter Hauntings 2025 introduced talented local writers and performers to more than 100 enthusiastic local patrons. Join us for an immersive evening of storytelling, haunting music, and phantasmagorical fun where you can:

  • Thrill to original ghost stories performed by talented actors
  • Support local authors at our Skull-astic Book Fair
  • Enjoy music written and performed by local singer-songwriters
  • Learn who will take home the $100 cash prize and Haunted Doll Award for best ghost story
  • Take home the top five stories in our magazine-quality souvenir program
